Admissions Requirements - This is a limited access program. Continuing enrollment approval will be required to enroll in the program specific courses based on a selection process after completing the General Education classes required.
- Students must have a standard high school diploma (or GED) and be at least 18 years of age to apply.

Admission Process The application period is January 1-31, to begin classes in the summer semester.
Applicants are admitted to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program using a selective admission process and point ranking system. NOTE: the application will be available ONLY during the application period above. Failure to complete all requirements will dismiss the applicant from the selection process.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is held on the Deltona campus. Students are expected to be available for classes and clinicals Monday through Friday while in the program.
A selection committee utilizes a point system as a GUIDE in the selection of qualified students for the Sonography program which includes an overview of the applicant's overall college GPA, prerequisite GPA, and an overview of application supporting documentation materials (listed below), and any related health care or military experience. All applicants are encouraged to attach their supporting documentation for consideration with their application.
The point system for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program selection criteria is as follows: Pre- and Co-Requisite courses point accruals are as follows: Letter Grade A B+ B C+ C 4.0 Scale 4 Points 3.5 Points 3.0 Points 2.5 Points 2.0 Points.

Application supporting documentation and materials include: - Healthcare or Military Experience (3 points) Resume
- Associate's degree or higher (1 point) transcripts
- Volunteer experience, customer service, work experience One year or more* 1 point: Resume or Reference Letter
- Volusia or Flagler County Residency Status (1 point) Driver License
- Optional TEAS test (1 point)
- Optional Medical Terminology course (1 point)
Applicants are given priority of interview selection based on total points, and supporting documentation. If applicants have multiple supporting documents to support their application, it is suggested to include all applicable documents in their application. Selected applicants will be invited to interview as a part of the admissions process for the sonography program.
Daytona State College reserves the right to make changes in the admission criteria as circumstances require. Every reasonable effort will be made to communicate changes in the program to potential students.

Applicants can follow the below steps:
Phase One:
1. Complete the School of Health Careers Application (remember to include any supporting documentation). *The applicant is responsible for providing all supportive documentation prior to the deadline of January 31st .
2. All applicants must apply for and be accepted as a student at Daytona State College who meet the minimum requirement that includes a grade of “C” or better on completed program required courses, and a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
3. All applicants must have completed all Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program Prerequisite courses:
- SON1000 (2026 Applicants)
- BSC1085C Human Anatomy & Physiology I with Lab
- MAC1105 College Algebra
- PHY1020 Conceptual Physics
4. All applicants are suggested to have completed all general education requirements before applying and submitting transcripts.
General education requirements include:
- BSC1086C Human Anatomy & Physiology II with Lab
- POS2041 OR AMH2020 (American Federal Government or United States History Humanities/Art/Literature: One Course beginning with AMI, HUM, LIT, MUI, PHI, REL, or THE)
5. Applicants are encouraged to attend one online informative session for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Informatory sessions are held through Microsoft teams.

Once the application window has closed (January 31), applicants will be notified of their status by email of an interview request to move forward with their application, or a decline approximately 4-6 weeks after the application deadline (Late March). Interviewed applicants who have been conditionally accepted will receive an acceptance package with detailed instructions on how to proceed with required orientation items. Applicants that are not accepted may reapply for admission the following year.

Post Acceptance Requirements: Admission requirements to be completed after admission into the program:

- CPR (Students can take on main campus at DSC)
Students selected for admission are accepted provisionally pending verification of a negative drug test and completion of a level II background check.
The program director will provide information about these additional admission requirements with the letter of acceptance and first day orientation information, along with the costs associated with the requirements.

Program Goals By the end of the Daytona State College Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program a student will be able to:
1. Integrate scientific principles which form the foundation of entry level sonography into clinical practice.
2. Differentiate the normal vs. abnormal states of anatomy and physiology observed and documented in the clinical ultrasound setting.
3. Describe his/her role and responsibilities to the patient, the physician or radiologist, and other members of the health care team using effective communication.
4. Perform examinations, under the supervision of the radiologist or physician consistent with evidenced-based sonography practice safely, effectively, and efficiently.
5. Analyze and evaluate medical sonography or radiology related literature in pursuit of lifelong learning. Possess knowledge and the understanding of continuing medical education, explore medical conference opportunities, and assist leadership in the sharing of evidence-based sonography knowledge, processes, and ethical radiologic procedures.
6. Value active participation in national certification. Possess knowledge and locating the various societies that represent the sonography profession, as means of professional development.

Our Mission The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program promotes the ideals of the Daytona State College (DSC) Mission Statement of emphasizing student success, embracing excellence and diversity, as well as fostering innovation to enhance teaching and learning. Each student in the sonography program will receive academic and clinical experiences to provide them with a professional foundation to become an effective, responsible, licensed and contributing team member in radiologic sciences, and ultrasound departments. Program Cost The cost of the program is approximately $11,000.00. This cost estimate includes course fees, textbooks, uniforms, medical physical, background check and healthcare provider CPR certification. This estimate does not include any prep or other courses in which the student may enroll.

Certification Examination Following the completion of all requirements for graduation from the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program, graduates are eligible to sit for a national registry exam administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists for credentialing in general, obstetric, and vascular sonography.

- Students will be trained to understand the technology and perform abdominal and OB/GYN procedures, as well as participate in clinical experiences to enhance and master skills for entry level sonography positions.
