Alternative Certification & Renewal
Your Path to Success
Teachers holding a three-year temporary certificate can enroll in specific bachelor's level courses approved by the Florida Department of Education towards earning a five-year Florida Professional Educator's Certificate. In addition, teachers looking to renew a current Florida Professional Educator's Certificate can enroll in qualifying courses, including a one-credit bachelor's level Students with Disabilities course.

Already teaching?
Apply to Daytona State College. Choose "Special Credit - Teacher Cert" as your Academic Plan.
Submit your Statement of Status of Eligibility to Dr. Ana Blaine.
Send an employment verification letter from your Human Resources department to Admissions.
Not currently teaching?
Apply to Daytona State College. Choose "Special Credit - Teacher Cert" as your Academic Plan.
Submit your Statement of Status of Eligibility to Dr. Ana Blaine.
Complete the Volusia County School Volunteer Clearance application.
Need to renew your Florida Professional Educator's Certificate?
Apply to Daytona State College. Choose "Special Credit - Test Exempt" as your Academic Plan.
Verify your courses selections will satisfy your renewal requirements by contacting the FLDOE.
