Daytona State College Receives Funding for Capital and Program Projects
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (June 23, 2023) – The Florida Legislature and Gov. Ron DeSantis have allocated funding for four major projects at Daytona State, including $4.8 million for a state-of-the-art Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Center at the DeLand Campus.
The funding was included in the State budget passed by the Legislature and signed by the governor on June 15.
“The funding provided by the Legislature and Gov. DeSantis will help us enhance the educational experience for our students and allow us to update essential facilities and systems,” said DSC President Tom LoBasso. “We greatly appreciate their ongoing support of our mission.”
DSC's Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Center will allow DSC to train recruits and sworn offers using the latest techniques and facilities. The $4.8 million will be used to create a 2,000 square foot tactical training pavilion, a 400’x800’ driving pad and physical training course. The new Center is scheduled to open in Fall 2024 and will be the new home of DSC’s Law Enforcement Academy, now housed in the Advanced Technology College in Daytona Beach.
DSC also received $3.3 million for pedestrian and vehicle safety and amphitheater improvements for the Flagler/Palm Coast Campus. The funding will be used to widen the connecting road between Buildings One and Two, improve lighting and extend the amphitheater roof.
The Legislature allocated $500,000 for DSC to update the Auto Collision program at its Advanced Technology College. The funding will modernize existing space to meet current accreditation standards, including building a new paint booth and upgrading other facility equipment and space.
The College also received $650,000 for a database security, protection and monitoring program.
