Daytona State College to offer Patient Care Assistant program at the Deltona Campus starting May 21

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (March 22, 2012) – If you have a desire to help people and are looking for a career that is in high demand, then the Patient Care Assistant certificate program starting May 21 on Daytona State College’s Deltona Campus may just be what you are looking for.

This one-semester program prepares students to pursue a career as a nurse's assistant in a hospital, long-term care facility or home health agency under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Clinical experiences are provided at local extended care facilities, hospitals and other community agencies.

Classes start May 21 and continue through August 7. Lectures are held on the Deltona Campus at 2351 Providence Blvd. on Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.; labs are held on Mondays from 8 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.; and clinicals are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

“The PCA program is a great introduction to a career in nursing,” said Sheryl Gray, assistant chair with the School of Nursing. “Many of our students find immediate employment on completion of this program and are encouraged to pursue advanced course work in our practical nursing and Associate of Science in Nursing degree programs.”

Evening classes are also offered on the Daytona Beach Campus starting May 21; classes meet Monday through Friday from 5:30 to 9:50 p.m.
