  • Digital Currency Investigations

    Date: January 8, 2026 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    Location: Daytona State College - ATC campus

    COURSE DESCRIPTION: This one-day course is designed to equip law enforcement professionals with the essential knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complex world of digital currency. Participants will delve into the fundamentals and best investigatory practices of the most popular digital currency platforms such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Monero (XMR) as well as the payment services that incorporate cryptocurrencies for payments like Venmo, CashApp, Revolut, etc. Participants will gain a deep understanding of their underlying technologies, transaction mechanisms, and unique features. Students will learn about the following topics:

    • In-depth analysis of the most widely used cryptocurrencies.
    • Understanding UTXO (unspent transaction output) coins and smart contracts.
    • Introduction to the DeFi (decentralized finance) ecosystem, stable-coins, and wrapped tokens. 
    • Practical sessions for attendees to create their own cryptocurrency wallets.
    • Hands-on exercises to reinforce theoretical knowledge.
    • Examination of popular payment apps incorporating cryptocurrencies, such as 'CashApp,' 'Venmo,' and 'Revolut.'
    • Best practices for tracking and analyzing transactions on these platforms.
    • Introduction to open source tools and resources for blockchain analytics.
    • Demonstrations on leveraging open-source platforms for investigations.
    • Granting attendees demo licenses for investigative Software as-a-Service (SaaS) platforms.
    • Practical sessions on utilizing advanced tools for enhanced blockchain analysis.
    • In-depth analysis of real-world cases involving cryptocurrency transactions.
    • Learning best practices for the seizure of digital assets relevant to criminal investigations.

    This course is designed to provide law enforcement professionals with an understanding of the digital currency landscape, from basic concepts to advanced investigative techniques. Attendees will gain practical skills through hands-on exercises and real-world case studies, ensuring they are well-prepared to navigate and combat criminal activities involving digital assets.

    COST: $250 per student $225 groups of 3 or more

    WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Officers, Detectives, Crime Analysts, Investigators, etc. RESTRICTED TO LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL

    WHAT TO BRING: This is a hands-on course, students are required to bring a laptop or tablet with internet access.
