The Theatre Arts program at Daytona State College invites you into a vibrant, supportive community where you'll receive personalized attention from experienced faculty in small classes. From the moment you join, you can dive into exciting opportunities like annual mainstage productions, class showcases, and the student improv club. You'll also have access to courses in vocal and dance performance, ensuring a well-rounded experience in the performing arts.

Our Performing Arts program blends a strong liberal arts foundation with a comprehensive understanding of theatre. Here, you'll have the chance to:
  • Prepare for professional careers in theatre and entertainment
  • Earn electives credit toward an Associate of Arts degree with a focus on performing arts
  • Complete coursework to seamlessly transfer into a four-year theatre program, with pathways like DirectConnect to UCF or our articulation agreement with Flagler College Theatre
  • Perform onstage or gain behind-the-scenes experience in our state-of-the-art theatre facility

Show-Stopping, Professional Facilities

The program is housed at the college’s News-Journal Center, located in the heart of historic downtown Daytona Beach. The multi-level, multi-theatre facility features two state-of-the-art performance spaces.

Other amenities include dance studio rehearsal space with sprung wooden floors and mirrored walls, large dressing rooms and green rooms, four concession areas, and traditional classroom spaces.

Main Theater

A proscenium-style venue that is intimate, yet grand in style. It features seating for 859 guests, an orchestra pit, fly tower, digital sound boards, computerized lighting and dimming, and excellent sight lines from every seat.

Studio Theatre

This 264-seat venue offers a thrust-proscenium hybrid-style design, with the stage amidst the audience. The theater boasts a trap floor and wire tension grid that allows for greater lighting flexibility.
