DSC Foundation Scholarship

The Daytona State College Foundation is proud to offer scholarships to currently enrolled and incoming students at Daytona State College. We have simplified the application process by inviting you to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a Foundation application. Your eligibility will be determined by the information you provide, so please take time to provide as much information as possible.

How do I get a scholarship?

Apply in 4 Easy Steps

  1. Complete the FAFSA® with the DSC code, 001475.
  2. Write a brief statement in a format you can copy and paste into the DSC Foundation Scholarship application. The statement should focus on your educational and career goals and requires 150 to 300 words. Be sure to spell and grammar check your statement, then save it in a folder to insert it in to the DSC Foundation Scholarship application.
  3. Complete the DSC Foundation Scholarship application. It can be completed in more than one session, but be sure you click ‘Save and Continue’ prior to logging out. Once complete, click the ‘Submit’ button and then it's our turn.
  4. Upload a thank you letter and headshot within 10 days if you receive an email stating you received a DSC Foundation Scholarship.

  • L. Gale Lemerand Entrepreneurial Speaker Series Scholarship Application

    The L. Gale Lemerand Entrepreneurial Speaker Series Scholarship is offered twice a year, in the Fall and the Spring. Scholarships will be awarded to students interested in becoming entrepreneurs. Up to three $1,000 scholarships each round may be given, based on the following criteria:

    • One to a Volusia or Flagler County high school student who plans to attend DSC
    • One to a DSC college-credit student
    • One to a DSC Adult Education student

    The Fall 2024 L. Gale Lemerand Entrepreneurial Speaker Series Scholarship Application is now open! Please submit your application and letter of recommendation. Applications close on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

  • Halifax Health Education to Employment Scholarship

    The Daytona State College (DSC) Foundation, in coordination with Halifax Health Center, is pleased to offer the Halifax Health Education to Employment Scholarship. Scholarships will be awarded to students who are majoring in eligible DSC allied health fields, or who are taking prerequisites for the limited access allied health fields.

    Scholarships will cover any remaining tuition and fees not covered by federal or state scholarship and grant assistance for students enrolled in pre-requisites for one of DSC's eligible majors. For those students, already enrolled in one of the eligible allied health majors, students will receive a scholarship for tuition, fees, and books not covered by federal or state scholarship or grant assistance.  

    Students considering enrolling in one of DSC's eligible majors listed are strongly encouraged to apply.

    Eligible Majors

    Requirements

    • Be enrolled in an eligible major or taking prerequisite classes toward that major while awaiting admission to a limited access program
    • Be enrolled at DSC for at least 6 credit hours per semester (students taking prerequisites or vocational certificates are not subject to this minimum)
    • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
    • Be a resident of Volusia, Flagler, or Brevard Counties
    • Be willing to enter into a separate agreement with Halifax Health or a Halifax Health affiliate regarding future employment
    • Follow the application and approval process

  • Vets Create Program

    The Vets Create Program offers scholarships to veterans, active duty personnel, their spouses, and dependents (18 and older) to enroll in a variety of DSC studio arts courses. The scholarship covers in-state tuition, all lab fees, and tools.

  • William H. Murray Memorial Scholarship Application

    Multi-semester scholarship is awarded in the fall and spring to students in the nursing program who meet the following criteria:
    Continuing DSC students;

    • Enrolled in at least 10 credit hours within the nursing program
    • Have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA
    • Demonstrate financial need

    Deadline to apply: The Spring 2024 William H. Murray Application is now open through Tuesday, March 19 , 2024 at 11:59 p.m.

  • TRiO Grant Aid Scholarship

    The TRiO Grant Aid scholarship funds will be awarded to students who have been active in the TRiO Student Support Services program for at least one semester. Please complete the scholarship application if you meet the following criteria:

    • You are currently active in TRiO Student Support Services and have completed the 3-2-1 requirement
    • You are a Federal Pell Grant Recipient
    • You are registered for at least 3 credits the following semester
    • You have a 2.5 minimum GPA and are in compliance with SAP

    The Fall 2024 TRiO Grant Aid Application will close on Friday, December 20, 2024.

  • Garden Club of Halifax Country

    The Garden Club of Halifax Country is pleased to provide a $2,000 scholarship to a student enrolled in Photographic Technology. The qualified candidate must:

    • Successfully completed a minimum of 24 credit hours
    • Be enrolled full-time (12 or more credits)
    • Have a cumulative GPA of a 3.0
    • Be a resident of Volusia or Flagler county
    • Submit a letter of recommendation from a DSC faculty member

    o    Please have the name and email address of your recommender available when clicking "Add Recommender". The DSC faculty member will receive an email with instructions on completing your recommendation. 

    o    Be sure to ask the DSC faculty member BEFORE submitting his/her name and email to prevent submission delays

    o    If you have any difficulties adding the recommendation, letters can be sent to Christine Burnette at Christine.Burnette@DaytonaState.edu

    Preference will be given to students who have completed a 2023-2024 FAFSA® and demonstrate financial need.

    PLEASE NOTE: The scholarship will pay $1,000 in the Summer and another $1,000 in the Fall. In addition, the selected candidate will be invited to attend an event hosted by the Garden Club of Halifax Country.

  • Open Door Program

    The Open Door Grant Program for 2024-2025, funded by the Florida Department of Education, is now open. This financial aid program supports students at Florida College System institutions, aiming to incentivize both current and future workers to enroll in career and technical education programs leading to a credential, certificate, or degree.

    Eligible students can receive a maximum award covering 100% of the cost of tuition, fees, exams or assessment costs, books, and related materials for eligible programs, after all other federal and state grants, scholarships, or third-party payments have been applied. Please note that this opportunity is subject to funding availability.

    The awarded funds apply only to the term for which the application is submitted, but the grant may be available for subsequent terms, with returning students given priority. Applications are reviewed in the order they are received based on the date a completed application is submitted.

    • Complete the Open Door Grant Application.
    • Be a Florida resident, as determined by the DSC Admissions Office.

Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program

The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program establishes three lottery-funded scholarships to reward Florida high school graduates for high academic achievement.

  • What are the Initial Eligibility Requirements to Receive Funding?

    The student will:

    • Meet Florida's residency requirements for receipt of state student financial aid by maintaining Florida residency for purposes other than education for a minimum of 12 consecutive months prior to the first day of class of the academic term for which funds are requested. A student's residency status is determined by the postsecondary institution. An applicant who has questions regarding residency status should contact the financial aid office of the institution he/she plans to attend.
    • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. A student's residency and citizenship status is determined by the postsecondary institution. An applicant who has questions regarding residency status should contact the financial aid office of the institution he/she plans to attend.
    • Not owe a repayment under any state or federal grant or scholarship program unless satisfactory arrangements to repay have been made.
    • Not be in default on any federal Title IV or state student loan program unless satisfactory arrangements to repay have been made.

  • How Does a Student Apply?

    For Initial Eligibility the student will:

    • Submit a fully completed (error free) Florida Financial Aid Application during his/her last year in high school (after December 1 and prior to graduation) by accessing www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org online (select State Grants, Scholarships & Applications, then Apply Here). The application gives the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) permission to evaluate the student's high school transcript and standardized test scores for eligibility for a Bright Futures Scholarship and other state scholarships and grants.
    • Apply during his/her last year in high school, before graduation, or will forfeit all future eligibility for a Bright Futures Scholarship.
  • How Does a Student Renew?
    • A student who receives funding during the current academic year (fall through spring) is automatically evaluated for renewal at the end of the spring term.
    • Renewal cumulative GPA and completed hours requirements are outlined in the Bright Futures outline on the Bright Futures Fact Sheet.
    • The institution where a student is enrolled as degree- or certificate-seeking is the home institution. That institution determines the courses to be included in each student's renewal institutional cumulative GPA.
    • A student may request that a financial aid officer at the home institution use his/her high school dual enrollment courses to his/her advantage when calculating the renewal institutional cumulative GPA.
