Tuesday, February 3 at 2 p.m.
Topic: Florida: America’s First Film Capital
Speaker: Steve Barber
Before there was Hollywood, there was Jacksonville “The Winter Film Capital Of The World”. Because of its warm climate, it allowed for year round filming with its natural surroundings, diverse architecture and varied backdrops from beaches to swamps, especially during the winter when New York production was hindered by harsh weather conditions.

Topic: Falcon Hope Center
Speaker: Rabecka Collins, Director, Falcon Hope Center
The Falcon Hope Center at DSC exists to remove any barriers for students looking to further their education. Learn about their mission to prepare, empower, and support DSC’s student population in achieving their educational, professional, and personal goals.

Speaker: Jake Niceley, Professor, MA, Music Production Technology
This presentation will spotlight the Music Production Technology program at DSC and explore how artificial intelligence is shaping the music industry today and what its continued evolution means for the future.

Speaker: Mark Lane, Columnist, Author and Freelancer
Raised in Daytona Beach, Mark has worked many beats at the Daytona Beach News-Journal since 1980. He currently writes a column and prepares a regular Sunday page of local vintage photos.

Topic: AI-Powered Scams
Speaker: Paul Wheeler, Chief Information Security Officer/ Local Agency Security Officer at DSC
Artificial Intelligence is giving scammers powerful new tools to make fraud look and sound real. This session will show you how AI is being used in voice cloning, phishing emails, deep fakes, and impersonation scams. We’ll share practical tips to help you recognize the warning signs. Awareness is your best defense against these high-tech tricks.

Meet the Dead as they Come Alive! Reenactors from Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery tell their stories of life in Ormond Beach before us.

Grief is typically our response to loss. Vonshelle will delve into different types of loss and help us examine and understand our personal grieving process and coping strategies.

Speaker: Chef Costa Magoulas and Dr. Eve Magoulas
This meeting will be hosted at the Mori Hosseini College of Hospitality & Culinary Management on the main DSC campus.

Topic: Embry-Riddle, A Century of Innovation, Determination, Service and Education
Speaker: Dr. P. Barry Butler, President of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Topic: Halifax River Audubon Society
Speaker: Bob Kellogg, Board Member
Spring bird migration is in full swing during the month of April here in Florida. Bob will share about our special migrating bird visitors and our resident native bird species found in Volusia County. He will also discuss locations for excellent bird watching opportunities, what migrating species to watch for, and how to enjoy the spectacular wonder of birding in Volusia County and throughout Florida.  


Tuesday, April 21 at 2 p.m.
Topic: Manufacturing in Volusia County
Speaker: Jayne Fifer, Former President at Volusia Manufacturers Association
Discover the variety of manufacturing, from the earliest days in Volusia County to the present. Be surprised not only by the variety, but also the number of manufacturers in Volusia County.


WISE participants/members are asked to pay $30 (individual) or $50 (couple) as a contribution to cover the costs of programming once a calendar year. However, inability to pay should not be a barrier to participation in WISE. Payment may be made in person or via this secure link. WISE members have established a scholarship fund that provides support for students
in need of financial support as they pursue an education at Daytona State College.
